It is unclear what caused the disruption.
Friday night’s season opener between the Hazel Green and Sparkman high school football teams was suspended due to a “major disruption,” the Madison County school system posted on Facebook.“On two separate occasions, a large number of students in the open area on the south end of the stadium began running and causing a major disruption,” the post read.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to clear the stadium and suspend the game. This incident will be thoroughly investigated, and proper action will be taken. We will release more information as we receive it.” Heath Jones, who represents the Sparkman High area on the Madison County School Board, said in a statement board officials are meeting with school leaders about the incident.
