UPDATED 10.05AM | Haze: Hazardous API in S'wak, over 500 schools nationwide closed
The Air Pollution Index reading in several areas of Sarawak recorded unsafe readings this morning, with Sri Aman near Kuching hitting the hazardous level.for Sri Aman was at 365, having climbed steadily from a reading of 201 at 10pm last night.
Two areas in Peninsular Malaysia - Johan Setia Klang in Selangor and Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan - recorded very unhealthy readings at 232 and 211 respectively. The National Disaster Management Agency said a total of 363,991 students are affected by the closure of 531 schools nationwide. Aside from the closure of schools in Selangor and Port Dickson, 298 schools in Sarawak and 25 schools in Putrajaya have also been ordered to close in view of worsening air quality levels.
As of yesterday, there were 316 hotspots in Kalimantan and 154 in Sumatra, 15 in Sabah and Sarawak and three in Peninsular Malaysia.“In Kalimantan, persistent hotspots were detected in West, Central and South Kalimantan, particularly along the coastal areas of these provinces. Scattered hotspots were also detected in East Kalimantan,” ASMC stated on its website.
