On Friday , Kiyoko dropped her latest single "Runaway," the latest track off of her hotly-anticipated project . The thundering percussion and distorted melodies show Kiyoko in a relationship gone sour, as she tells her partner that unless she's proven wrong, she's leaving. "If it's not in vain, let me hear you say/ Something that won't make, make me runaway," she sings.
In a statement released with the new track, Kiyoko said that she wanted to write a song that promotes finding a healthy relationship, even if it's not the one you're currently in. “I don’t want to be let down and if I am, I will spiral,” she said. “This song is about daring yourself to find someone who won’t trigger you, and to not trigger yourself. So many times we only hear what we want to hear because of the baggage we carry.
The fourth song to be released off of her forthcoming set, Kiyoko also revealed that there's only one song left to share. According to a statement, the star's final song from the project titled "She," along with the full version of , will be released in January, just in time for her US headlining tour of the same name.
"Runaway" comes after yet another big night for Kiyoko: On Thursday , the star returned to the stage of 's Women in Music to serve as this year's host, just one year after receiving the Rising Star honor in 2018. "I am so grateful for the women in our community that made space for me, and let me know they had my back," she said during her opening remarks.
