Justin Reeves confirmed he would be stepping down from his role as Hawks CEO over the immense 'personal toll' it had taken on him, as the AFL's racism investigation into the club remains ongoing.
Mr Reeves made the announcement at a meeting of the Hawthorn board on Wednesday, after holding the position for more than five years.
Mr Reeves said now was the time for him to focus on his mental wellbeing and spend time around family. Picture: Tim Carrafa. Mr Reeves told the Board this turbulent period for the club had taken a great personal toll on his mental health and the time had come for him to step away and focus on his wellbeing.“I’ve worked hard with my team to establish strong foundations for the club to work through some important cultural, strategic and operational matters.“I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead Hawthorn and thank the club’s ever so talented employees, loyal members and committed commercial partners.
Hawthorn President Andy Gowers said Mr Reeves’ departure would have a great impact on the club, although he admitted he respected the “brave” choice.
