This comes after the republic nominated its hawker culture to be listed as a Unesco cultural heritage.
GEORGE TOWN: A deputy minister today said hawker food is not unique to Singapore but something common to Malaysians, following the city-state’s decision to nominate its hawker culture as part of the Unesco-recognised cultural heritage.
“So, I’d like to advise Singapore, let’s submit serial nominations to Unesco, say Penang and Singapore hawker food, together,” said the Balik Pulau MP. If the nomination is successful, the food items will join Japanese cuisine and Belgian beer which are listed as cultural heritage by Unesco.
