Many people in Hartford said they are struggling to cover the cost of basic needs, due to a recent increase in utility rates.
HARTFORD, Ala. -
“There’s less of everything because all the money has to go to the power bill,” she said. “When it came in this month, I immediately went to my teenager’s bedroom and I said if you are not using it, unplug it.” But, it’s more than just a power bill. In Hartford, all of the utility bills are limped into one. So, if you have money for your trash bill, you may have money for my water bill, but not enough money to cover your electric bill as well, then all of the the utilities will be shut off.
The irony for Eldridge is she said she moved to Hartford six years ago because of the cheaper utilities. Now, she is regretting that decision.
