that appeared at Design Miami this past December. Much like their working relationship, their style is totally in sync and, yes, they’re also very much in love.
A full year prior to officially meeting each other, they unknowingly crossed paths at Art Basel. Billinger, who at the time was working in public relations for Jeremy Scott and Moschino, was hosting a dinner in Miami that Nuriev was invited to. “We didn’t notice each other,” says Billinger. They connected months later when Nuriev stumbled upon Billinger’s profile picture on a dating app. Instead of sending a message, Nuriev reached out on Instagram via DM, and Billinger immediately responded.
Nuriev recalls wearing an oversize jacket by the Russian label Denis Simachev and see-through green pants for their first rendezvous; Billinger was in a full Jeremy Scott look. Unabashedly bold and bright, that aesthetic continues to define their style as a couple. They share pretty much everything in their closet, down to the sneakers, with a look that Nuriev describes as “new money trash.
Those plans are temporarily on hold however, as the pair plot their next move under lockdown in California. In addition to his recently released Nike Air Max Day Sofa, Nuriev is set to launch a furniture collection this summer. As for Billinger, he is developing a fully digital business under MyReality that will go live in July. In the meantime, he’s working on a project that is sure to bring him even closer to his partner: he’s learning to speak Russian.
