Harrison Ford says IndianaJones will be a fish out of water in the upcoming sequel 👀 'It is a time of pop culture. Of men on the moon. Music. Everything’s changed. And not insignificantly, it is the end of his academic career...'

Harrison Ford reveals that Indiana Jones will be much more of a fish out of water in the upcoming sequel, Indiana Jones 5. The film, which currently does not have an official title, will see Ford reprising the role for the first time since 2008's critically lambasted Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The Empire issue for January 2023 features an Indiana Jones 5 cover story. During their conversation with Ford for that story, he reveals certain key character details about where fans can expect Indy to be at this point in the story. He says Indiana Jones doesn't feel cut out for the shifting pop culture landscape of the late 1960s, and when combined with his retirement from his academic career, that "leaves him open for other opportunities, or mischief.

[The Time period is] the water that the fish is out of. It is a time of pop culture. Of men on the moon. Music. Everything’s changed. And not insignificantly, it is the end of his academic career, which leaves him open for other opportunities, or mischief. How Indiana Jones Will Work In The 1960s Indiana Jones is a character who always has one foot squarely in the past, beyond the fact that the original Indiana Jones trilogy takes place in the mid-to-late 1930s.

In the late 1960s, however, the world was rapidly changing as science progressed rapidly while the U.S. attempted to reach the Moon before Russia. This period of time has been dramatized in many works of pop culture, including the Oscar-nominated 2016 historical drama Hidden Figures. While the Space Age might still seem archaic and quaint to modern audiences, the world of computer banks and shiny white floors is certainly not one that Indiana Jones would seem to naturally fit into.

While this is something that he will certainly be struggling with over the course of Indiana Jones 5, the heroic archeologist will likely have the chance to prove that his knowledge and skillset is still valuable in some way. The film will see him squaring off with a familiar enemy when NASA hires an ex-Nazi scientist to aid with the space program.
