A man accused of killing his wife was found dead in his holding cell Saturday morning.
After being found unresponsive in his holding cell Saturday morning, Benjamin Pierce, 39, was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote on Twitter.
Pierce was arrested Friday for allegedly stabbing his wife, Leslie Pierce, to death at the house in the 3200 block of Painted Meadow Circle, near Fry Road, in Katy. Just prior to the stabbing, the couple was arguing about divorce and child custody, according to Gonzalez.Read more:The couple's 7-year-old son was in the house at the time of the attack but he was unharmed.
About 40 percent of Texas women have experienced intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner rape or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes. In 2019, the most year for which data is available, 150 women in Texas were killed by a male intimate partner, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
