Tini Howard, Hayden Sherman, Triona Farrell, and Steve Wands' Knight Terrors: Harley Quinn #2 sees Harley Quinn exploring a Golden Age-style universe as the "Heroic Harlequin" after accidentally casting herself as an "A-list" superhero in the multiverse.
When Harley returns home to find that Pamela has been murdered and stuffed into the refrigerator as a bowl of salad, she breaks down, shouting "I don't want [this] cliché crap. I don't want the double life. I don't want my loved ones in danger.
Harley is quick to point out how stupid these kinds of tropes are. Throughout the entirety of the issue, she rejects every trope that the "A-List" heroes have had to deal with, from the constantly returning villains to the incessant internal monologue.
Harley Quinn Won't Tolerate Melodramatic Clichés While the comic industry has made leaps and bounds in better representing its female characters, the specter of "fridging" still looms large; for example, the death of Marvel's beloved Kamala Khan in a seemingly random issue of Amazing Spider-Man set off a firestorm of controversy about a major character dying outside of her own series in the service of either corporate mandate or Spider-Man's own story.
