Last week, Malaysian social media was abuzz with a post regarding the issue of 'ham' uploaded by comedian and actor, Harith Iskander on his Facebook account. The post, which Harith uploaded last Tuesday (January 21st), drew widespread criticism as it was accused of inciting Islamophobic comments from an individual.
Following this, Shahrol Azizie Azmi, former member of the Shiro comedy group, better known as Shahrol Shiro, lodged a police report concerning Harith's post and the comments made by Facebook account owner, Cecelia Yap Song KL. Cecelia Yap Apologizes Recently, Cecelia Yap, who was accused of causing controversy due to her comments that were perceived as insulting to Islam, issued an apology. Through a statement released by her lawyer, Cecelia Yap stated that she was deeply sorry for the insensitive remarks she made on social media. 'I, Cecelia Yap Song KL, hereby apologize to all those who have been offended by my comments on Harith Iskander's Facebook page, especially to my Muslim brothers and sisters whom I deeply respect,' she said, as quoted by Berita Harian. 'I am truly sorry that my insensitive comments have caused offense to everyone. I promise that I will not repeat this mistake in the future,' she added, stating that she would fully cooperate with the police in their investigation. Police Record Harith Iskander's Statement Earlier, media reports stated that the police had recorded Harith's statement regarding the post about the 'ham' issue. Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said that they had also identified the identity of another individual known as Cecelia Yap, believed to be involved in the incident. 'To date, an investigation paper has been opened under Section 298 of the Penal Code (KK), Section 505 KK and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,' he said.
