PETALING JAYA: Vietnam are proving to be a kryptonite for Harimau Muda.
The side led by E. Elavarasan failed to get to the final of the Asean Football Federation Under-23 Championship after losing to Vietnam 1-4 in the semi-finals at the Rayong Province Stadium yesterday.They lost 0-1 to the hosts in the semi-finals at the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games.
Vietnam broke the deadlock in the seventh minute when winger Nguyen Minh Quang beat Ubaidullah Samsul Fazili and unleashed a drilled cross, which was finished by striker Dinh Xuan Tien. In a hope to revive their chances, Malaysia brought on Fergus Tierney and V. Ruventhiran and the change injected some pace and purpose.
Malaysia tried to conjure up chances but Vietnam frustrated the attackers with their resolute defending.
