PETALING JAYA: The national team received the perfect tonic ahead of the 2022 World Cup - 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers after edging 10-man Tajikistan 1-0 in a friendly match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Forward Safawi Rasid was on target in the 72nd minute to help world No. 158 Malaysia to overcome No.116 Tajikistan on Saturday .

Tajikistan were reduced to 10 men after goalkeeper Rustam Yatimov was red-carded for handling the ball outside the box in the 46th minute. The win would be a morale booster for the Harimau Malaya as they are set to take on Thailand on Nov 14 and Indonesia Nov 19 in their 2022 World Cup - 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers Group G matches, also at the same venue.
