Vu-An Foster experienced two painful yet preventable losses: one baby died during childbirth and the other shortly after in her arms.
After suffering two devastating pregnancy losses, Vu-An Foster, of Newark, smiles triumphantly with her newborn son, King Kyro, who she calls her "rainbow baby."Vu-An Foster wanted desperately five years ago to be a mother.
Fortunately, several other nurses and doctors showed up to help deliver her “little angel,” a girl who died during childbirth. But just days after his birth disaster struck again: Foster was admitted to the hospital with severe postpartum preeclampsia, which is rare, but can cause women to begin to have high levels of protein in their urine and high blood pressure. It can lead to a stroke, brain damage and even death.
Because women aren’t listened to. Because women of color aren’t listened to. Because Black women aren’t listened to. Because Latina women aren’t listened to. Listen to women. Listen to us. Weon our bodies. Don’t dismiss our pain. When in doubt, listen. listen. listen. And pay attention.
