Cardinal William Goh emphasizes the importance of meaningful relationships and faith in Christ for true happiness during the Social Mission Mass organized by Caritas Singapore and CHARIS. He urges attendees to serve with authenticity and reflect Christ's love in their actions.

Cardinal William Goh emphasized that true happiness is not derived from material possessions but from fostering meaningful relationships with others and finding solace in Christ . He delivered this message during the Social Mission Mass , jointly organized by Caritas Singapore and Caritas Humanitarian Aid & Relief Initiatives (Singapore) ( CHARIS ), held at Saint Anne's Church on January 4.

Addressing a gathering of approximately 300 staff, volunteers, and partners of CHARIS and Caritas Singapore, Cardinal Goh stressed the importance of serving with compassion and authenticity. He urged attendees to ensure that those they assist perceive the love and presence of Jesus in their actions, stating, 'If those you serve fail to see the face of Jesus in you, it means you are not serving the right way.' The Cardinal expressed hope that the individuals they aided would be inspired to join their organizations and extend their service to others, reflecting a genuine encounter with Christ's love.Speaking after the Mass, CHARIS Chair Josephine Koh echoed the Cardinal's message, encouraging everyone to be beacons of Christ's light, both to each other and to those they serve. She highlighted the invaluable work of CHARIS' member organizations, acknowledging their dedication and perseverance in their roles as overseas missionaries and pilgrims. Ms Koh also announced the return of the biennial Humanitarian Forum and Fair, scheduled for June 14 at Saint Joseph's Institution Junior. This event will feature food stalls, interactive games, and the opportunity to connect with representatives from CHARIS' 19 member organizations, gaining insights into their work and exploring opportunities for volunteering on overseas missions.CHARIS serves as the umbrella organization for the Archdiocese's humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts. Last year, the organization disbursed $1.34 million in grants, reaching 163,000 beneficiaries across 16 countries. Caritas Singapore Chair Agnes Liew shared some noteworthy accomplishments of Caritas Singapore and its affiliated organizations over the past year. These include the first in-person Social Mission Conference since 2018, the inaugural Mass in May dedicated to environmental care within the Archdiocese, and the inaugural Walk with Caritas Family event held on October 5th. This walkathon drew approximately 1,600 participants who embarked on a five-kilometer journey in Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to raise funds for Caritas Family member organizations. Caritas Singapore plans to host another community walkathon later this year, designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all participants, including wheelchair users, seniors, and families with pets
