KUALA LUMPUR: The government is still mulling whether to abolish the Official Secrets Act (OSA) or to maintain an improved version, says Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Hanipa Maidin.

Hanipa said the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Law, the Communications and Multimedia Ministry and several government agencies were in discussions to determine which direction to take on the matter."One is the model used in England where they have both the OSA and FIA. The other is Indonesia where they only have the Public Information Disclosure Act," he said."The FIA can offset some of the more difficult elements that the OSA may contain," he added.
Pakatan Harapan had promised to do away with draconian laws and to carry out reforms under its election manifesto.
