Hamas claimed that 13 of the hostages being held in Gaza were killed in Israeli airstrikes over the past 24 hours.
Israeli authorities previously reported Hamas is holding as many as 150 people hostage, including Americans. responded by saying it could not confirm or deny the claim.
"We will not address this kind of message of Hamas. We will answer it when we have reliable information that is based on our sources,” Hagari added. Israel said it needed to target Hamas' military infrastructure, much of which is buried deep underground. Another spokesperson, Jonathan Conricus, said the military would take "extensive efforts to avoid harming civilians" and that residents would be allowed to return when the war is over.
