Halloween and The Exorcist reboot director David Gordon Green is developing a "naughty" animated series based on children's trading cards.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT David Gordon Green is developing a "naughty" animated series based on Garbage Pail Kids. The filmmaker first gained notoriety for directing independent dramas before transitioning to studio comedies like Pineapple Express.
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, Green may have just revealed his next project. The director says he is currently working on a "naughty" animated series based on the Garbage Pail Kids cards with his frequent collaborator Danny McBride, who co-wrote both the Halloween reboot trilogy and The Exorcist: Believer.
Right now, McBride and I are trying to do an animated series based on the Garbage Pail Kids cards. So, we’re working on that. And we have some really cool ways we can make a pretty naughty animated show. We’ll see if they’ll have us on that one. I use that as an example of pulling something out of I.P. but making it personal and making what appeals to me about it. Not necessarily engineering it for everyone in the world. I guess that’s what gets hard for me—making everyone happy.
What Is Garbage Pail Kids? Garbage Pail Kids are a series of children's trading cards that were introduced during the 1980s by the Topps Company as a parody of the popular Cabbage Patch Kids. Unlike their sweet and innocent counterparts, the Garbage Pail Kids often featured grotesque illustrations of the characters engaging in gross activities, which became controversial and were even banned in some places.
