Drummer Lyla Vander is stepping into the world of fashion with her own knitwear line, Sundae
Lyla Vander is no one-trick pony. Between drumming in four bands, she runs her small business Sundae, a fashion line of hand knit and crocheted tops she sells in boutiques throughout New York City. We spent a sunny spring afternoon talking about playing in bands, launching a successful business, and the fun of having multiple interests.
Her company was born in 2020 during the pandemic when she couldn't play live music, Vander focused her creativity into knitwear. She began experimenting and challenging herself to make new creations, constantly building on her previous designs. The process is not that different from making music - for her drumming is equal parts time, math, skill, and magic.
The designs and colors have an ultra feminine vibe, but lately Vander has been experimenting with different designs leaning a little darker and a little more rock & roll– much like she does on stage.
