Gwen Stefani is coming under fire after the Italian-American singer said in a new interview that she's Japanese.

"I said, 'My God, I’m Japanese and I didn't know it,'" Stefani told Allure, adding, "I am, you know."Gwen Stefani came under fire Tuesday after she said in a new interview that she's Japanese.magazine, Stefani, 53, who is Italian American, cited the influence of Japanese culture in her home when she was growing up.

"That was my Japanese influence and that was a culture that was so rich with tradition, yet so futuristic [with] so much attention to art and detail and discipline and it was fascinating to me," she said in the interview."I said, 'My God, I'm Japanese and I didn't know it,'" Stefani told Allure. She later insisted,"I am, you know," calling herself a"super fan" of Japanese culture."Like Stefani, I am not Japanese," she wrote.

Calaor noted that Stefani made the claim about being Japanese twice during the interview and said she's"a little bit of an Orange County girl, a little bit of a Japanese girl, a little bit of an English girl." A representative for Stefani told Calaor that she had"misunderstood what Stefani was trying to convey" but declined to provide an on-the-record statement.
