CHICAGO — Sunday’s game between the Guardians and Cubs has been pushed back to a 5:05 p.m. ET first pitch due to rainy weather in the Chicago area.
The two clubs waited 2 hours and 45 minutes to start Saturday’s game because of rain at Wrigley Field., behind a four-run outburst in the sixth and a strong start by rookie right-hander Tanner Bibee. With showers and thunderstorms predicted throughout the morning, officials determined that delaying Sunday’s start gave them the best chance of getting the game in. The rains are alsoBibee, who tossed 5 2/3 shutout innings and struck out nine Cubs batters once the rain cleared up, said he did “a whole lot of nothing,” in the clubhouse while waiting out the weather.
“I swung a bat in the cage a little bit,” Bibee said. “Obviously two hours and 45 minutes is a super long time, but it was kind of whatever, hanging out with the guys, seeing what everyone’s doing, kind of just figuring out stuff to do, messing around, so it was pretty solid.”
