Guardians executives admit they keep a long list of former prospects that flourish with other clubs.
Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti says he and GM Mike Chernoff keep a list of "bad trades" that allowed former prospects to flourish with other clubs.CLEVELAND, Ohio — Bring up the subject of Junior Caminero and Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti becomes visibly uncomfortable.
“It’s a bad trade,” Antonetti said when asked to reflect on the move Tuesday. “The guy we got didn’t end up achieving what we thought he might achieve. But when you make a lot of trades there are going to be some that work and some that don’t. We’ve certainly been on our fair share of the other side. That’s certainly one we’d like to have back.”
“Unfortunately the timing didn’t work out for them to impact our major league team, and we had to make decisions on them for roster management or because we wanted to acquire somebody else,” Chernoff said. “You look up afterwards and in hindsight, sometimes you wish you could have them back, but the situations were what they were at the time.”
When it comes to the trades of Jones, Benson, Diaz and Caminero, Antonetti and Chernoff prefer to view each as an individual circumstance.
