The Guardians aren't going to let Terry Francona walk away at the end of this season without a tip of the cap.
The team has followed his lead out of respect for all he’s accomplished, but before Wedneday’s game in Kansas City they made this announcement, “Since Tito has talked about the possibility of stepping down at the end of the season, in recognition of all his accomplishments and our deep appreciation for all he has given our organization, our city and our fans, we wanted to acknowledgte and thank him on the last home game of the season on Wednesday night against Cincinnati.
When Francona talks to reporters, there’s no doubt this is it. When it finally became public in late August that he was considering stepping down, it was if a ray of sunshine came into his life. “Monday night, we have 11 games to go, but I still tossed and turned all night. I was beside myself. When you’re not the manager, you can still care. . .and I will because I still love the people here. But it’s not the same. After that he doesn’t want to look at the a baseball schedule for a long time. The schedule runs the lives of any person connected with a big-league organization.
