Naylor homered with one out in the fourth and Giménez went deep with one out in the seventh to back a strong start by Aaron Civale . The Guardians hit the second-fewest homers in the big leagues last year.
“In this day and age of high-90s velocity and strikeouts, he pitched to contact. I think he had 10 ground-ball outs. That was really impressive.” Rodriguez reached base again with a two-out single in the fourth that skipped under Amed Rosario’s glove at short. Civale retired Kolten Wong on a grounder to second to end the inning.
“When you’re on the same page as your catcher, when everyone is into the game, those kind of plays happen. Then in the very next half inning, Gimi hits a home run. It’s funny how baseball works.”
