Great Southern Wood's treatment facility in Irvington will be expanded and upgraded in a $14 million project due to start in early 2023 and finish in early 2024. Great Southern Wood plans a $14 million expansion project at a treatment facility in Mobile County, work it says it will improve lumber shipping through the Port of Mobile.
According to information released by the Chamber, the project “will improve traffic flow, storage, and [the] ability to process imports and exports through the Port of Mobile.” Alabama Power is described as a “strategic partner” in the expansion. The project received a 10-year non-educational ad valorem property tax abatement with an estimated value of $653,000 and a non-educational sales and use tax abatement during construction, estimated at $185,000. The abatements were granted by the Mobile County Industrial Development Authority.
