A 66-year-old grandfather in NSW Kingscliff almost loses his arm during a home invasion, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old suspect. Police believe the homeowner acted in self-defence.

"We have yet to have an opportunity to speak to him . We are hoping we may be able to do that today," the police officer told Sunrise on Thursday. According to early inquiries by police, Mr Laurie and his accomplice allegedly broke into the Kingscliff home and hit Mr Kerr with the axe"multiple times".
Det Insp Zimmer told Sunrise Mr Kerr may not face any charges if it is found the 66-year-old's response was"necessary in the circumstances".
