College Park guard Aiden Buckmon makes a layup against Grand Oaks forward Max Mar during a District 13-6A high school basketball game at College Park High School, Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, in The Woodlands.THE WOODLANDS — If Grand Oaks didn’t already have a signature moment in the short life of its basketball program, it does now.
“I was so happy,” Grand Oaks senior Caleb Edwards, who had 14 of his game-high 28 points during three overtime periods, said of Reece’s drive to the hoop that put them up for good. “I saw him get the steal and I saw him running so quick. I tried to keep up with him. I tried to seal my man off so he could get the layup and when he shot it, I was like ‘please, please’, and it went in. Thank God.”
College Park had won six straight games since falling 70-62 at Grand Oaks on Nov. 29. Martez James scored 32 points and grabbed 14 rebounds that night. But the Cavaliers had to play without their leading scorer, who was ejected at the Conroe game on Saturday. Down the other end, Grand Oaks sophomore Trae Lewis made his only points of the night count as he hit a 3-pointer with 7.6 left, which eventually sent it to overtime.
