A Pacific trough will cap the daytime high in the mid-50s in some inland areas on Sunday, and winds will be sharp.

A trough off the Pacific Northwest will sink into San Diego County this weekend and produce unseasonably cool temperatures and up to a half-inch of rain in the mountains, the National Weather Service said.

The system will draw close late Friday and arrive on Saturday, generating mostly cloudy skies into Monday. The rain is expected to fall on Saturday evening and possibly again on Sunday and will be concentrated on coastal mountain slopes. Sporadic showers might reach local beaches. The daytime high in San Diego will be 73 on Thursday, 71 on Friday, 70 on Saturday and 68 on Sunday. The seasonal average is 76.The temperature drop will be much steeper in such inland communities as Julian, which will be 77 on Thursday, 72 on Friday, 58 on Saturday and 54 on Sunday.

There also will be periods of strong winds Friday through Sunday, with gusts reaching 21 mph in San Diego and Oceanside, 23 mph in Escondido and Ramona, 25 mph in Alpine, 38 mph in Julian and Borrego Springs and 47 mph at Mount Laguna.
