PETALING JAYA: Both the Malaysian and Indonesian governments need to get an integrated hiring system going quickly to ensure a smooth maid recruitment process with no more hiccups, say industry players.
They believe that maids had been hired illegally simply because the legal process to hire them was taking too long.
“Building a new system will take a long time. The most important thing is: no more visa conversion from tourist visa into work permit,” he said. However, she said she hopes the integration with the Immigration Department’s MyIMMs portal will be able to ensure a smoother and faster recruitment process.
The Association of Employment Agencies Malaysia said it was thankful for the lifting of the freeze but added that there should be transparency on the process to ensure the issue of illegal maids does not recur. He said there should be a fixed timeline for each party in the process so the duration can be standardised.
