(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday vowed to hold accountable those behind the 'unfortunate' maritime incident near Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal), which killed three Filipino fishermen.

'We are deeply saddened by the deaths of the three fishermen, including the captain of the fishing vessel. The incident is still under investigation to ascertain the details and circumstances surrounding the collision between the fishing boat and a still unidentified commercial vessel,' Marcos said in a statement.The President said the Philippine Coast Guard 'is backtracking and checking all monitored vessels in the area as part of its ongoing investigation.

The three survivors told authorities that they initially encountered difficulties in recovering the bodies of the fataliities due to the inclement weather.At about 8 a.m. on the same day, the eight crew members returned to the location of the mother boat and successfully retrieved the bodies of their crewmates inside the pilot house, the PCG said.They subsequently proceeded to the Coast Guard Sub-Station Infanta, transporting the three bodies, using their eight small service boats.
