Govt optimistic of growth this year, says Tengku Zafrul
Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz says his growth projections have been validated by international finance institutes and monitoring services. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, July 12, 2022.
“For Malaysia, we have seen a strong second quarter growth and for third quarter, we feel that the momentum will be on growth for the country, but we have to remember the base effect on last year’s third quarter,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today. “We are affected in the slowdown in the US economy. Things are very fluid, so, as a trading nation, open and small economy as well, we need to also monitor the growth globally,” he said.
However, Tengku Zafrul said Malaysia, together with other countries, will have to be prepared for any eventualities, including a global recession.
