KUALA LUMPUR: The government has approved an application to build 34 childcare centres (taska) this year at federal and state government offices nationwide involving RM5.5mil, the Parliament heard.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff said that a total of 45 applications were submitted for the grants to build the centres but only 34 of them were approved.
"The other 11 applications were rejected as they did not fulfil the requirements set by the ministry," she said in reply to a supplementary question by Hannah Yeoh , who asked how many taska centres were approved by the government. Siti Zailah explained that initiatives were rolled out to assist government staff to ensure their children were taken care of while they were at work, especially for Covid-19 frontliners.
Siti Zailah added that five nurseries at public workplaces and institutions had been approved by the Health Ministry and the National Security Council.
