The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule has stated the importance of enhancing security measures to safeguard the wellbeing of students and staff of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia). The governor made the statement during a visit to the institution on Tuesday.
The governor's visit to FULafia followed an attack on Gandu, a settlement near the University, where staff and students of the institution reside.
reports that gunmen invaded the settlement on Monday night, killing one person and abducting others. The governor in a statement made available to by his spokesman, Emmanuel Innocent Akwe, urged the University's management to take proactive steps to heighten security awareness among the student body. Sule further pledged to strengthen security in and around both campuses of the University, saying that his administration would work with the Nigeria Police Force to construct security outposts and provide vehicles for security personnel to patrol the area.
