With the Alaska Legislature in the middle of its regular 2022 session, Governor Mike Dunleavy addressed the state’s current revenue situation.
In a press conference on Tuesday, March 15, the governor proposed a 3,700 dollar Permanent Fund Dividend to help Alaskans hurt by the increasing prices of fuel and other goods.
Dunleavy cited a projected 3.6 billion dollar increase to the state’s forecasted revenue over this and next year due to higher oil prices. The governor says after the increased PFD, the state will have a sizeable revenue surplus, which he would then like to see go into savings. He encouraged the legislature to act on his proposal, saying, “I can propose it, but it’s the legislative body that has to approve it, and so hopefully they’re talking with their constituents. Hopefully they see the prices at the stores and at the pump, and hopefully we can do something great for the people of Alaska.”Copyright 2022 KTVF. All rights reserved.
