Sky News Brisbane Bureau Chief Adam Walters has questioned why can’t the model for the way in which the Voice will work “be showcased to Australians before the referendum”.

“The Prime Minister says he wants to … simplify the referendum question,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“The question itself will beg many more for those millions of Australians who need to know exactly what they are voting for or against. “So for the model to be released after the referendum just doesn’t seem to make any sense … such a plan could well jeopardise the prospects of the Voice.”

Voice model to be proposed after federal electionVoice model to be proposed after federal electionIndigenous leaders expect to take six months of consultations to sort the modelling for an advisory body on the Voice to Parliament, should Australia vote yes on the referendum. Some questions about the Voice will not be confirmed until the government and indigenous communities complete a “process of dialogue” that will stretch into mid-next year. The proposal would then go to a parliamentary committee before legislation establishing the Voice is proposed, where it might not be operational until after the next federal election.

‘Biggest problem’ is different people want ‘different things’ from the Voice‘Biggest problem’ is different people want ‘different things’ from the VoiceSky News host Peta Credlin says the “biggest problem” is that different people want different things from the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. “Some want it merely to be symbolic constitutional recognition, but others want it to give Aboriginal people a virtual veto over the decisions that governments make for all of us,” she said. “Others see it as the first step towards a treaty and ultimately self-government, perhaps even a separate country for Indigenous Australians.”
