Reportage and video footage of China’s dangerous maneuvers helped “destroy the false narratives” coming from Chinese government officials, NSC Assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya said.
This videograb taken and released on October 22, 2023, by the Armed Forces of the Philippines shows a collision between a Chinese Coast Guard ship and Philippines' resupply boat during a resupply mission near the Second Thomas Shoal, in the disputed South China Sea. Beijing and Manila traded blame on October 22, for two collisions between Chinese vessels and Philippine boats on a resupply mission to Filipino troops on a remote outpost in the disputed South China Sea.
Malaya said that the media reported on the incident as first-hand witnesses. “That’s why China is getting mad at the presence of the media, because they are losing the information war.” Malaya added that the false narratives coming from Beijing are fanning even more diplomatic tensions between the Philippines and China.
PCG Spokesperson Jay Tarriela previously told a Senate panel that the Coast Guard suspects Chinese state actors to be behind a disinformation campaign downplaying the aggression of Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea.
