31 students of the institution were kidnapped on May 9, 2024. Though 29 of the students were later rescued in June, but two others were killed by the kidnappers. Ododo said he will work with the management of the university to consistently review the security architecture of the school and make improvements where necessary in line with the safe school initiative of the state government, stressing that nothing will deter his administration from making education accessible to the teeming population of young people in the state.
The governor who promised to immortalize the two slain students of the university, James Anajuwe and Caleb Musa who were killed by their abductors also inspected the University Senate Building, new male and female hostel projects and the University Demonstration Farms.
