Mexican drug cartels manufacture this deadly poison and often disguise it to look like legitimate prescriptions. Last fall, I designated Mexican drug cartels asto equip Texas law enforcement with every available tool to dismantle the cartels’ operations in Texas. I requested President Joe Biden similarly designate these ruthless criminals as terrorists, but he has so far refused to acknowledge the devastating human costs of his reckless open border policies.
The Kaprosy’s anguish did not end at Danica’s tragic passing. In the weeks that followed, it became clear investigators and law enforcement were not aware of how to handle a fentanyl poisoning case. Danica’s unintentional death was classified as an overdose, and questions remain about who sold her the pill that took her life.
In the wake of unimaginable loss, Danica’s mother, Veronica, has joined a growing number of advocates statewide forever impacted by the fentanyl crisis and who are now making it their mission to save the lives of others. I thank these brave advocates for summoning the courage to share their stories and experiences.
