Goku has made hundreds of broken promises.
A promise Goku made to his wife Chi-Chi way back in DBZ that many fans likely assume wasn't kept hasn't actually been broken in Dragon Ball Super. In fact, Goku has gone out of his way to make sure that he stays true to his word, directly contradicting many fans' understandable opinions that Goku is a terrible husband and father.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In chapter 366 of Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama, Chi-Chi lets Goku train Gohan to defeat Cell under the condition that this will be the last time he will ever interfere with Gohan's studies and that he will later get a job.
Goku Had Many Opportunities to Break His Promise While it would have been difficult for Goku to interfere with Gohan's studies or to get a job for the rest of DBZ after Cell due to his death, for the time he was alive, Goku doesn't break his promise. When he's allowed to stay on Earth for a day, he asks Chi-Chi if Gohan can participate in the upcoming tournament since it would interfere with his studies, and she agrees because they could win money.
As for Goku holding down a job, Goku is employed a few times throughout Dragon Ball Super. Every time he stops working, it's only because he somehow stumbles upon a huge amount of cash, which is why Chi-Chi wanted him to get a job. At the very beginning of the manga, Hercule first gives Goku 100 million Zeni as part of a reward that Hercule felt belonged to Goku.
Goku's Intent Doesn't Always Matter Even though Goku has made his fair share of mistakes by disregarding Chi-Chi's feelings in Dragon Ball, it's impossible to deny the lengths at which Goku has gone to ensure he doesn't break his promise with Chi-Chi. Some might argue that Goku choosing not to recruit Gohan for the Tournament of Power was just based on how little he believed in his son's capabilities as a warrior.
