GM reportedly designed a small EV pickup to fight against the Ford Maverick.
The publication was invited to get a sneak peek at a small electric pickup designed by the U.S. brand, describing it as"futuristic and sporty."s says the pickup it was shown had just two doors, a low roofline, a 4- to 4.5-foot bed. It was also told the truck would start under $30,000, but wasn't let in on details like a name or production timeline.
"We're creating these to get a reaction and then to try to modify it or move on," director of Chevrolet affordable EV and crossover design Michael Pevovar told reporters at the event attended by."What does work? What doesn't work? What's expected? Affordability is the key portion of this, and there's lots of different ways to approach it."
The news of GM exploring a small EV pickup comes off the success of Ford's and Hyundai's small truck offerings. Ford sold 74,370 Mavericks in 2022, while Hyundai moved 36,480 Santa Cruz units, according to"The input may come back that it's just too small, and that's OK," Pevovar said.
