Giles Martin -- son of original Beatles producer George Martin -- has been helming archival projects for the band since the late 00s. His latest -- the new song 'Now and Then' and revised editions of the famed 'Red' and 'Blue' compilations -- may be the most ambitious and have certainly become the most newsworthy.

The Beatles -- pictured during July of 1968 -- are following last week's release of their final song, "Now and Then," with upgraded and expanded editions of the famous "Red" and "Blue" compilations, coming out Friday, Nov. 10 When “here comes the son” is invoked in the Beatles’ world, it’s not only about the progeny of the band members.

New technology that director Peter Jackson created for “Get Back” allowed Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the rest of the camp to finally finish it, releasing it to great acclaim -- particularly for Jackson’s emotional music video. Coming on its heels are newly remixed and expanded editions of the “1962-1966″ and “1967-1970″ compilations .

Martin: I supposed it had an element of, um, high risk involved with it. I suppose I’m used to it; most of the work I do gets examined by people. But generally, I get away with most things. When Paul played to me, my first thought was, “Omigod, I hope it’s not terrible”...like meeting a date that you’ve spoken to on the phone for so long and then finding out they’re not the person they were meant to be. So that was my fear. But it’s been so well-received and it’s touched people.

What all was added to the versions of “Now and Then” that were worked on for “The Beatles Anthology?” Martin: People think there’s a huge planning system to what we do, and there really isn’t. We’re amateur at best -- we just seem to get away with it. But we did “Now and Then” and we had that, and then there was a discussion about “What do we do with “Now and Then?” There was a thought at one stage about mixing the most popular songs and creating a sort of compilation for that, but...that felt like we were almost creating a playlist as an album, which doesn’t seem very Beatles.

When “Now and Then” came out Peter Jackson spoke about doing more “new” Beatles songs, using the technology. Think that’s a real possibility?
