The Gift of the Givers has stepped in to provide aid in McGregor in the Western Cape as the area faces a dire shortage of essential goods.
The town has been cut off for more than a week after heavy rains and flooding damaged a bridge connecting it to nearby Robertson.
"There's no money in the ATM, grants for the elderly, children and those with disabilities cannot be paid, many shops do not accept card payments, fuel and delivery vehicles cannot reach the locality." The Gift of the Givers provided flood relief to more than 15 000 people in several municipalities in the province, distributing hot meals, mattresses, new clothing, sanitary pads, nappies and fodder for horses and farm animals.
