Charles B. Johnson recently maxed out a donation to Adam Laxalt, who's running for the U.S. Senate in Nevada.

In this photo taken Oct. 10, 2021, Republican Adam Laxalt, flanked by pictures of Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, talks to a supporter at the Douglas County Republican Party headquarters on the final day of his Senate campaign's statewide tour in Gardnerville, Nev.According to Federal Election Commission filings reviewed by SFGATE, San Francisco Giants principal owner Charles B.

In December 2021, Johnson and his wife Ann each donated $5,800 to Adam Laxalt, a Donald Trump-endorsed conservative and former Nevada attorney general who’s running for a U.S. Senate seat in the state. Laxalt, the favorite to be the Republican nominee for a 2022 Senate race against Democratic incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto, isby Donald Trump Jr., Michael Flynn, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley and former Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

Laxalt’s preferred rebuttal tactic, anecdotal evidence of voter fraud, has backfired. During a November 2020 news conference, he brought out a man named Donald Hartle, who claimed an impostor had cast a vote on behalf of his dead wife. That much was true: The imposter turned out to be Hartle himself. Another aggrieved Trump voter whom Laxalt pushed into the public eye eventually recanted her story of voter fraud.during an August 2021 radio interview with a conservative host.
