CBS's Ghosts has set up a perfect crossover.
Now that the Ghosts franchise is doubling in size, it is clearer than ever that the CBS sitcom could pull off a wild crossover event. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are the real heroes of the show, as was the case in its British inspiration of the same name. Both comedy shows get a lot of laughs from their human heroes, but it is the varied range of mismatched ghosts that anchors the show’s action and comedy.
1 While the human characters of the US and UK versions of Ghosts could meet easily enough, the ghosts themselves present a problem. Although Ghosts season 4 may change this, the lore of both shows currently states that most ghosts can’t leave the site where they died. Although Pete has displayed this ability a few times, it would be impossible to see how the sitcom could justify a whole group of ghosts crossing the Atlantic.
While Ghosts season 4’s new backstory reveals will deepen the lore of the US show, these new series will expand the world of Ghosts as a franchise. Both the German and Australian versions of the sitcom are replicating the premise verbatim, much like the CBS show did when adapting the BBC original. While this might sound like imitation, it means that the franchise can now crossover in a way that previously seemed impossible.
If the German, Australian, American, and British versions of Ghosts all overlapped, then the characters could point out just how unlikely their shared fate is.
