Pagliuca said statements made by Acting U.S. Attorney Allison Strauss and FBI Special Agent William Sweeney, along with two lawyers representing alleged victims, David Boies and his partner Sigrid McCawley, were made “as fact” and “will offer any opinion that damages Ms. Maxwell’s opportunity for a fair trial.”
Strauss, during the July 2 press conference announcing charges against Maxwell, said she “lied because the truth, as alleged, was almost unspeakable,” while Sweeney said Maxwell “slithered away to a gorgeous property in New Hampshire,” which Pagliuca argued were unfairly biased comments and compared Maxwell to “ a semi-biblical reference involving a snake.”, Pagliuca said Boies and McCawley offered “gratuitous critique of defense counsel” and “commented on the credibility of Ms.
Pagliuca also took aim at the method by which federal agents chose to arrest Maxwell, accusing them of choosing to “invade Ms. Maxwell’s New Hampshire residence, arrest her, and stage a media presentation” because “plain vanilla surrenders” don’t receive as much attention in the news media. Pagliuca, Boies, McCrawley and the U.S. Attorney’s Office did not respond to requests for comment by Forbes.“The Court. . .should enter an Order, punishable by contempt, that all lawyers associated with this case, and their agents, comply with the Rule and refrain from publicly commenting” to minimize “prejudicial” press coverage of Maxwell’s case, Pagliuca wrote.
