Manley, who has been proposed for a two-year term with the option of an extension at the next county board meeting, has plenty of experience on the coaching and management circuit in both hurling and camogie having worked at club level in Cork, Waterford, Kerry, Laois and Tipperary. As a player, he won All-Irelands with Cork minor and under-21 hurlers as well as a junior football title in 1990 and a National Hurling League title in 1993.

His single appearance in an All-Ireland senior hurling final was in 1992, when he scored Cork’s only goal in a four-point loss to Kilkenny.
