Positive assessment from Brussels comes after deadly shooting near Moscow-controlled area

Georgian president Salome Zurabishvili addresses a rally in downtown Tbilisi on Wednesday called to celebrate a European Commission recommendation that Georgia should become an official candidate for membership of the EU.

“For our country it’s a very important step. It’s a perspective, nothing is granted yet and we still need to work for candidacy,” said Tbilisi resident Tamaz Akhobadze.
