A Georgia school district has agreed to reinstate a Christian teacher who was fired from her job after requesting that her children be excused from a read-aloud program with books depicting same-sex relationships.

Bryan County Schools in Georgia agreed to pay Lindsey Barr a sum of $181,000 and reinstate her as a substitute teacher after the Christian mother filed a lawsuit that accused the school district of violating her right to religious freedom last October.

In a statement announcing that the school district had settled the lawsuit, Philip Sechler, an attorney for Alliance Defending Freedom, a nonprofit conservative legal organization that represented Barr, praised the school district for agreeing to the settlement. “We commend the school district for finally doing the right thing and understanding that the First Amendment protects the right of Lindsey — and all public employees — to express their concerns about what schools are teaching children without the government canceling them," Sechler said.
