Breaking: Georgia governor signs ‘heartbeat bill,’ giving the state one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation
By Washington Post Staff May 7 at 10:24 AM Gov. Brian Kemp signed the bill, which would prohibit the termination of a pregnancy after a “fetal heartbeat” is detected — as early as six weeks, before many women know they’re pregnant.
The bill attracted national attention and prompted fierce protests from abortion rights advocates, who have threatened legal action.
