It may seem like any ordinary tree but the Oak is both the oldest and tallest tree in the State of Alabama.The Geneva landmark stands now at about 70 feet tall and 100 feet wide.When I took office, they asked what was one thing I don’t want to happen, I said I don’t want anything to happen to the tree.
The tree is our symbol and draws everybody. I grew up here, we ride to the junction, check the river heights, look at the tree, ride through and go home. The tree is a draw for us. I mean a lot of the people have never seen a tree this size.It was also in constant battle with an oak in Mobile for the title of the tallest and oldest tree but that tree recently died.
